9-year-old Hero saves mother

A nine-year-old girl from Sellindge has saved her mother’s life.
According to the Herald, when Sydnie-Louise’s mother, Melanie Ward, started choking, the girl attempted to dislodge the item and then when that didn’t work rang the ambulance and cared for her until they arrived. The choking is believed to be due to a tablet taken in the morning.
Mrs Ward told the Herald it made her think “a little about fate. If Sydnie-Louise hadn’t been home, goodness knows what would have happened” and said “my little girl’s a hero” and she was “really very, very proud of her”.
Hawkinge supermarkets targeted in rampage

Two Hawkinge supermarkets were attacked in a rampage last week.
The attack started at the Tesco Express at about 11:20pm on Tuesday 18th October with rocks being thrown at the building in order to gain entrance. This attack was then followed by a raid on Lidl at around 12:30am which involved forcing the door open.
The police told the Herald that nothing was taken during this attack. One witness told the Herald that “it was a very violent action” and hopes “they don’t move on to people’s houses”.

Helipad angers residents

Capel-le-ferne residents living near the Battle of Britain memorial are angry over plans for a new Helipad.
The Helipad would be located near the “National Memorial to the Few” and would be used to fly customers alongside a Spitfire as part of the “Fly with a Fighter” experience.
The planning application being considered will lead to another seven flying days to the current 20 per year.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Trust is trying to find another solution, telling the BBC that
“We are upset any time they are upset and we are working very hard to resolve this situation”.
Santa Fun Run

A charity run will see hundreds of Father Christmases jog through Folkestone.
The annual Santa’s Charity Fun Run is in aid of the British Alzheimer’s Society and is happening on Sunday December 4th.
The event is in it ninth year and has previously raised thousands of pounds for charities such as Children with Leukaemia.
Prevetitive measures for Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night

More police will be on patrol in Folkestone over Hallowe’en and Bonfire night to prevent any problems.
According to the Kentish Express the crackdowns are part of the police Stay Safe This Autumn campaign.
Officers will be clamping down on anti-social behaviour and checking ages of people found with fireworks.
Sgt John Merritt said anyone found to be anti-social will be dealt with robustly.
Free Parking Petition

Over a thousand people have now signed a petition to keep free parking in Folkestone town centre.
The campaign has also set up a Facebook page, and a public meeting with more than 100 people in attendance was held this week.
Lead protestor Kay McLoughlin told the Kentish Express that the charges will stop people coming to Folkestone to spend their money.
Witnesses sought

Police are looking for anyone who witnessed an accident involving a car and a cyclist on the A20 between Folkestone and Hythe last week.
The collision happened last Wednesday at 6.45 in the morning.
The 45-year-old cyclist was taken to the William Harvey Hospital and was released after a check-up. The car involved was a black Ford Escort and the driver was not injured.
Bags of enthusiasm over new plans

Barbara Witham and John Barber who are members of the Folkestone Town Management Committee, along with the owner of a small shop have created a plan to reduce carrier bag usage in Folkestone. They plan to make a reusable bag for Folkestone residents to use to prevent plastic bags flying around the town.
Sue Sheppard who runs Lacies in Dover Road said “If we only make a small dent in their usage we will have achieved something positive”. Using cotton bags is a temporary measure in reducing the amount of carrier bags used, although they are expensive in comparison to normal bags. They are holding a stall on Friday 28th October to present what the new bag may look like and hope to launch it at the Green Fair next year.
Boys arrested over assault of teenage girl

Two boys aged 11 and 12 have been arrested following an assault on a teenage girl at Pencester Gardens in Dover. Kent Police issued an efit witness appeal after the incident on September 19th at around 5.30pm.
Police are re-appealing for any information that may help the case as the girl had wood bark thrown into her eyes and as a result may lose sight in one eye. The two boys were arrested on suspicion of assault on the 13th of October and have been released on bail until the 14th of December.
52-year-old charged with GBH

A man from Capel-le-ferne has been charged after an assault on another man in Hythe.
The attack occurred at the Red Lion Square in Hythe on Saturday evening and led to the victim being taken to hospital for facial injuries.
Max Hess, an eyewitness, told Kent Online that “I had heard from police that the victim’s injuries were serious but not life threatening”.
Mark Stephens, 52, is due in front Folkestone Magistrates’ Court for Grievous Bodily Harm.
