Lounge on the Farm: more acts confirmed

Lounge on the Farm music festival have released the final headlining act for the weekend.
The Charlatans, who formed in the late 80s, will be taking to the main stage on the Sunday night of this year’s festival.
As well as the indie rockers, some of the other acts that were announced yesterday include: Fake Blood, Caspa, Pale Seas, The Good Natured and Disclosure.
On top of all of this, Brit Award winner Emeli Sande was among the musicians announced last month that will be performing. The Wombats, Mystery Jets and Goldie will also be performing this year, which will be the 7th year of the festival.
Men arrested after Folkestone burglary

Three men from Folkestone have been arrested on suspicion of Burglary and robbery following a robbery that took place on Dover Road, Folkestone this Saturday.
Two computers and a mobile phone were stolen from the flat after the men forced their way in. It is believed to have taken place between 3.30PM and 4PM, as the 3 were seen by witnesses in St Marys Terrace.
The three men aged 27, 31 and 36 have now been arrested, though are released on bail until 23rd April pending further investigation.
Kent Police are urging anyone with information to come forwards in order to aid the investigation.
Gang raid ATMs around Kent

A team of 5 hit seven ATM machines around Kent in 3 weeks in a bid to snatch hundreds of thousands of pounds, but however managed to steal not even a single penny, despite using top of the range industrial power tools.
Canterbury Crown Court head how the raiders; set fire to cash using a blow torch, triggered an alarm by burning through wires, missed out on £140,000 which was left untouched inside one of the ATMs, and allowed one of their ‘look outs’ to use her mums car on the raids whilst she whinged about not getting petrol money.
The gang, which included a man from Dartford, have now received jail terms of up to five years for their part in the failed attacks.
Update on Olympic Torch route in Kent

More news about the route of the Olympic Torch when it reaches Kent has been revealed.
Organisers have announced that the Flame will be taken underground through the 9k section of the Eurotunnel between Folkestone and Dover, when it arrives on 18th July.
Community events will be held at Samphire Hoe, at the foot of Shakespeare Cliff near Dover, and the public will be able to see the Torch as it’s carried on the nature trails in the area.
The Channel Tunnel was nominated as the engineering feat of the last century and it was said to be a vital link between people in England and in the rest of Europe.
Car damaged caused in Dover

Kent Police is appealing for witnesses after a car was seen to be kicked and damaged in Whitfield, near Dover.
About £5,000 worth of damage was caused to the Mitsubishi Lancer on Sunday 19th February and four people were seen in the area at the time. A 14-year-old boy from Dover was arrested in connection but has been released on bail pending further investigation.
The four teenagers that were seen were described as a girl with dark brown hair, a taller boy with ginger hair, a boy wearing a dark blue hooded top and a third boy wearing a red hooded top. Full descriptions can be found on the Kent Police website.
£10-a-week bus pass for students

A £10-a-week bus pass for students aged 16 to 19 across Kent has been approved by Kent County Council’s Cabinet.
The Post-16 Travel Card will only be for sixth form students and those at college, on apprenticeships or work-based learning. It’s planned to come out as early as September and will be available in schools and colleges at £520 for the year or £10 per week. Some institutions may choose to subsidise this cost further for some students if they receive the Government’s new bursary funding.
Increase metal thefts on Kent’s railways

Metal theft from railway lines across Kent has increased eight-fold in just three years, it has been revealed.
Network Rail has had to spend £683,000 over the last year fixing tracks and repairing damage caused by metal thieves and this figure was only £82,849 between 2009 and 2010. This comes after MPs raised concerns, saying the problems continue to get worse despite the work of the British Transport Police and Kent Police.
They have been calling the crime utterly selfish, and they say it affects commuters across the whole county with delays and the rising cost of fares.
£3 million drug smuggler jailed

A Dutch lorry driver who tried to smuggle over 3 million pounds of drugs into the UK has been jailed for three-and-a-half-years.
Hendrick Vriezen was said to have played a “vital and significant” role in the plot to bring cannabis, amphetamine and methadrone into the country through the Channel Tunnel last November. He admitted smuggling 240kg of methadrone, 3.95kg of cannabis resin and 9.71g of amphetamine, which was all disguised among the cargo of sports equipment.
41-year-old Vriezen was stopped at the UK control zone in Coquelles, France, when he turned up 30 hours early for his scheduled delivery time. Maidstone Crown Court heard that the boxes of cannabis and amphetamine had sand in them to disguise the weight of the contents, while packages containing methadrone were cellophane-wrapped to the legal cargo also in the trailer.
Vriezen will now serve 121 days less of his sentence due to the time he has spent in custody.
Harvey Grammar win Shepway’s first school choir competition

A competition to find Shepway’s best school choir has taken place. The Harvey Grammar School took first place in the Secondary school category held at Pent Valley Technology College.
All Souls Primary School took home the junior title awarded by the three judges after the school competed in the first competition of its kind in Shepway.
Young local artists sought for competition

11 to 18 year olds are being invited to design a logo for Folkestone Sea Sports as locations for improved access to the sea and facilities are being explored with the aim of providing a permanent sea sports facility for the town’s sea front.
The Folkestone Sea Sports community group are looking for budding young local artists to design a logo and the winner will receive £150 in Amazon vouchers and a chance to see their logo become the design for Folkestone Sea sports and all future branding.
