Lorry Driver jailed after going wrong way up motorway

A Polish lorry driver has been sentenced to 18 months and disqualified from driving for three years after admitting dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Ireneusz Popielarz drove his lorry for several hundred meters past junction 9 of the M20,  before performing a u-turn across all three lanes of traffic and driving back the wrong way up the motorway.

The 34-year-old drove the lorry London bound along the coast bound carriageway, where oncoming motorists had to swerve to avoid him before he was stopped by Kent Police Traffic officers from the specialist Roads Policing Unit, who had seen the incident from the opposite side of the motorway.
