Academy FM hosts Christmas Lights switch on - 105.9 Academy FM.
Christmas was kicked off in style by Academy FM in Folkestone and Cheriton with the switching on of the lights. The Folkestone event happened on the 18th November, and attracted a large crowd despite the cold! It started with a parade from the Leas Cliff Hall where Academy FM's Phil Hoyles and Josh Carter entertained the gathering crowd, which included the cast of this year's pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk. Once everyone was assembled the children were given lanterns to hold, and the procession made its way down to the Town Centre, where a stage had been erected outside the Town Hall.
Academy FM's Nick Price and Clare Lloyd entertained the growing crowd, which stretched all the way up to Debenhams. There were performances by the Kent Military Community Choir, St Eanswithe's Primary, and Cheriton Primary. The lights were switched on my the Mayor, Cllr Martin Salmon assisted by the panto cast. The procession then made its way down to see the Creative Quarter lights, and down to the Stade to see a fantastic fireworks display from the Harbour Arm.
The Cheriton lights switch-on had a real community feel. Academy FM's Nick Price and Clare Lloyd hosted the event from the stage near Community Network, next to a spectacular Santa's Grotto. There were performances from Cheriton Primary, St Mary's Primary, the Handbell Ringers and music from the Gurkha Community. A sizeable crowd assembled to see the lights being switched on by the Mayor, Cllr Martin Salmon, assisted by the Academy FM team and The Grinch.
