Barbara Witham and John Barber who are members of the Folkestone Town Management Committee, along with the owner of a small shop have created a plan to reduce carrier bag usage in Folkestone. They plan to make a reusable bag for Folkestone residents to use to prevent plastic bags flying around the town.
Sue Sheppard who runs Lacies in Dover Road said “If we only make a small dent in their usage we will have achieved something positive”. Using cotton bags is a temporary measure in reducing the amount of carrier bags used, although they are expensive in comparison to normal bags. They are holding a stall on Friday 28th October to present what the new bag may look like and hope to launch it at the Green Fair next year.
