Prince Charles visited soldiers at 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles’ base in Folkestone yesterday, ahead of their seven-month tour of Afghanistan.
His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales was greeted by Nepalese children, who presented him with a Royal Gurkha Rifles garland, before he joined a reception for soldiers and their families where he laid a wreath in memory. He also presented medals to soldiers, who were unable to make last year’s parade, in recognition of their work in Afghanistan.
Around 550 men from the Sir John Moore Barracks, at Shorncliffe Camp, are returning in September to help train the Afghan national security forces and this will be the third time their troop has been deployed there since the war began in 2001.
